HIT IT or QUIT IT: Universals HHN Haunted Houses Ranking
If you are on your way to Halloween Horror Nights and need a quick review on which Houses to stick with or ditch with, here is my personal ranking on them. Keep in mind the wait times may not be current when it comes to your trip and horror and fear is just as subjective as humor is. You could have an extreme phobia of clowns where as I see them on every dating site I happen to be on. I’m kidding.. men are okay.
10.Depths of Fear
You won’t hear too much about this one. The wait time never exceeded 5 minutes so it’s a good starter haunted house. If you’re ever just tired of waiting in a long line, give this one a quick sweep. Scares are low and you could probably find a better scare walking through the scare zones.
9.Nightingales: Bloodpit
This one is actually an original creation from HHN, the wait time never exceeded 15 minutes when I went but compared to everything else going on, it can be easily overlooked.
8.Graveyard Games
This attraction plays on the constant retelling tale of teens playing around in a graveyard and disturbing the spirits underground. As you wait in line they have a video loop of a backstory playing for you which includes social media elements before you go in, which makes you feel apart of the experience. The house itself was detailed and there’s a heavy use of fog machines but still the scares are just… okay.
7.Killer Klowns from Outer Space
Personally this house was as comical as the name of it. Even if you have a bad phobia of these circus creatures I think you’ll be okay. The hilarity comes from the ‘outer space’ aspect. The features in the clown suits are oversized and dramatic and they don’t talk so you don’t have to worry about hearing “Heya Georgie” from any dark corners.
6.Universal Monsters
This one ties in our classic monsters that we all know and love, Frankenstein’s Monster, Dracula, the Wolfman, the Mummy and many more. All these classic tales come to life creating some very intense walk throughs.
5.House of 1000 Corpses
This one I missed but I wish I hadn’t. What is said to be the goriest and spookiest of all the haunted houses would be sure to give you a fright. Who wouldn’t hate to walk through countless corpses jumping out and sending you into a hauntly faint. Even better than that is the wait time; it’s a lower scale than it’s friends who have a 45 minute and up wait.
4.Ghostbusters
Who you gonna call? Well, anyone really because this attraction can be anywhere from a 45-90 minute wait, so you have some time to kill. Those in love with this 80’s classic will give a thumbs up to the special effects and heavy detailed scenes featuring proton packs and much more. This is not a house for scares but more nostalgic bliss. So sit back and enjoy your favorite movie come to life.
3.Us
As a super fan of this 2019 movie I was really excited to see what this house was about. There are actors running around as key characters from the film as well as the tethered. The reenactment of scenes are pretty spot on and for the most part they are also in chronological order from the movie. At times you feel like your in the Jordan Peele Universe but be ready to run from the tethered trying to make their way above ground.
2.Yeti: Terror of the Yukon
Some really good terrors in this one. It’s pretty dark with some dark shades of blue lights to create the “on top of cold scary mountains’ vibe going on. There are some really good jump scares in this one. Going through the maze I had a dab off with one of the Yeti’s (meaning I got so scared at a jump out that I dabbed at the Yeti and they dabbed back) so do with that info what you want.
1. Stranger Things
I wish I could give you a review for this one, but I REFUSED to wait in line for 2 hours. I hope one day I’ll be able to experience it. But what I do know is that if you are a Stranger Things fan, scares aside you’ll be inclined to admire the details and scene reenactments in all 14 rooms in this large haunted house. The icing on the cake however is being face to face with the mind flayer which takes several people to operate. Remember when little Will was screaming ‘Leave Me Alone!” before the mind flayer took his body over? Yeah I have a feeling you’ll be screaming that too.
